Hancock: Patricia Marie Poggione, 74, of Hancock, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2017 at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock.
She was bornin Port Washington, Wisconsin on July 25, 1942, daughter of the late George and Mary (Kendall) Klein. She graduated from Hancock High School in 1960, where she earned first chair for saxophone in the high school band. She earned a scholarship to Interlochen Music Academy where she was offered a full-ride music scholarship.
Pat began her employment as a telephone operator at Michigan Bell, then a switchboard operator at St. Joseph Hospital and Michigan Tech University. She retired from Hancock Public schools in 1991 after 17 years, primarily in food service. She was a devout Catholic and a longtime member of the Church of the Resurrection. Her loving heart and presence will be very much missed by the people who love her.
She married Peter John Poggione on May 12, 1962 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Franklin Mine Location.
She is survived by her husband, Peter Poggione; four children: Peter (Pagan) Poggione of Paw-Paw, MI, Gina (Ross) Firth of Lithia, FL, Geri Ann (Robert) Turner of Zeeland, MI, and Joanna (Joe) Gamez of Tuscon, AZ; twelve grandchildren: Jordan and Taylor Kigar, Morgan and Kendall Firth, Olivia and Grace Turner, Austin Gamez, Sophia and Ava Poggione, Kelly Perrin, and Garreth and Sebastian Smiley; sisters: Carol Egerer, Marj Nutini, Betty Wickley, Barbara Wilmers, Kathy Wanhala, Kris Oertel, and Mary Beth Laiti; brothers: Nick Klein, Jim Klein, Phil Klein, and John Klein; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock with Rev. Fr. William Ssozi to officiate. Burial will be at Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.
