Arlene Long Obituary

Clinton Twp.: Arlene M. Long, 79, of Clinton Township, Michigan, passed away quietly at her home on Wednesday, August 29, 2018.

     Born on September 21, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Leona (Wuebben) Splittgerber. Arlene graduated from Lincoln High School in Warren, Michigan and received her associate's degree in business from Delta College. Through the years she was employed by the U.S. Postal Service, Caro Plastics, Ace Hardware and various restaurants where she was a respected baker and cook.

     She will be remembered for her enthusiasm with Girl Scouting, community theater, singing, gardening, writing, crocheting, working puzzles, crafts, and her love of animals. Over the years she was an active choir member at Peace Lutheran Church of Warren, St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Caro, and Shalom Lutheran Church in Pinckney.

     Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by granddaughter, Amie Lynn Swinton and sister Rosemary (Vern) Foster.

     She is survived by her former husband, Jack Leon Long; 3 sons: Michael (Deanna) Long, Timothy (Lisa) Long, and Patrick (Sheila) Long; 4 daughters: Louann (Galen) Gavit, Jackie (Major) White, Tami (Eric) Gillingham, and Theresa (Tom) Wallace; 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 2 Great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Karen (Michael) DeLockroy and Brenda Splittgerber; a brother, Michael (Martha) Splittgerber; and by many loved nieces and nephews.

     Graveside services were held at the Wuebben lot at Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock on Saturday, August 10, 2019.

     The O'Neill-Dennis Funeral Home of Hancock was in charge of the local arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to any animal shelter of choice in the name of Arlene Long.
