Marilyn Lohela Obituary

Marilyn Lohela, age 89, of Hancock, passed away peacefully Thursday June 13th at Omega House surrounded by loved ones.

She was born in Hancock on January 23, 1930. She graduated from Hancock High School in 1947 and Suomi Business College in 1948, after which she worked at the Superior National Bank. On October 16, 1954, she married Carl Lohela and spent her happiest years as a homemaker, enjoying cooking, gardening, and spending time with her husband, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She and Carl celebrated 50 years of marriage before he passed away in January 2007.

She is survived by her children, Anne (John) Childs of Flagstaff, AZ; her son Matt of Harbor Springs, MI; and three beloved grandchildren, Kristen, Andrea, and Luke; as well as their spouses and  seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Betty Barth and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl; her parents, William and Ruth (Peltier) Barth; her brother Bob Barth; and her sister Mary Ruth Johnson.

Marilyn created a wonderful home, a place where family and friends gathered to share life and love. She has left us a great legacy of what really matters in life—people. She is greatly loved and will be missed by her family.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Portage Hospice and Omega House for their compassionate and professional care for Marilyn during her final days.
