Hancock Canal Area: Robert W. Wuori, 79, of the Hancock Canal area, passed away on Tuesday morning, July 11, 2017 at the Lighthouse of Hancock Rehab Facility.
He was born on July 2, 1938 in Elo, son of the late William and Elma (Kriikku) Wuori. After attending local schools, he graduated from J. A. Doelle High School in 1956. He worked in the Detroit area for awhile at Western Bell Telephone Company, returning to the area in 1963. He was employed at Northern Auto in Hancock as a mechanic and body repair man before going into a partnership, owning East Houghton Texaco in downtown Houghton. He then began a career with Xerox Corporation locally in 1973, servicing and repairing copy machines until he retired.
Bob was married to Marjorie “Marge” Amato on December 19, 1958. She preceded him in death on August 5, 2002.
He enjoyed playing the guitar, deer hunting, fishing, camping with his family and neighbors, and woodworking. He especially enjoyed doing automobile body work, completely restoring a 1967 mustang.
Besides his parents and his wife, Bob was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Toms, and infant sister, Nancy, and special family friend, Jean Makonen.
He is survived by three sons: William Wuori (Angela Robinson) of Salo, Fred (Lori) Wuori of Baraga, and John (Deana) Wuori of Hancock; 8 grandchildren: Sarah, Jessica, Paige, Shaina, Peyton, C.J., Mackenzie, and Carter; 4 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Harry Toms of Florida; and by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Friday July 14, 2017, at the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock with Rev. Fr. William Ssozi to officiate. Burial will be at the Waasa Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. before the services.
