Twila Apger Obituary

Calumet: Twila J. Apger, 84, formerly of Calumet, passed away at Canal View Houghton County on Wednesday, January 1, 2020.

     She was born in California, Pennsylvania on April 24, 1935 to the late Kenneth and Barbara (McNeal) Harden. Much of her life was spent managing a credit union. Locally she worked at BHK Head Start and at Frakie   and then Louie’s Market in Calumet.

     On July 12, 1957 she was married to William E. Apger. He preceded her in death in 2018.

      Twila attended Faith Lutheran Church in Pelkie and Faith Lutheran Church in Laurium where she was active in their choirs and Sunday School programs. She also attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Houghton with her husband.

     Twila had an open heart and home to many foster children during her lifetime. She also was active in the Calumet Theater, community choirs, and the Pelkie 4-H Club. She played the violin and loved music. She also especially enjoyed family gatherings.

     Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by 3 sons: William, Butch, and Skip; and brothers Gary and Jim.

     She is survived by children Kathy (Jim) Ekdahl of Calumet, Ken Apger of Calumet, David (Gwen) Apger of Covington, Dawn (Paul) Maki of Baraga, Laura (Jon) Klumpp of Florida, April (Matt) Donovan of Iron Mountain, Barb (Jerry) LaBonte of Laurium, Daryl (Laurie) Williams of South Range, and Doug Jacques of Calumet; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; many foster children; siblings Dave (Lynn) Harden, Ken Harden, Rick Harden, Eileen “Ike” Harden; step-brother, Neil (Nancy) Davis; and many nieces and nephews.

     Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday at the O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock with Pastor Jared Howard of Faith Lutheran Church to officiate. Spring burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Ahmeek. Friends may call for an hour before services at the funeral home on Monday.
