Gratiot Lake: Allan W. Hochstein, 71, of Gratiot Lake in Keweenaw County, died at UP Health System-Marquette on Friday night, June 26, 2015.
He was born on March 17, 1944 at Henry Ford Hospital in Highland Park, Michigan to the late Allan H. and Eleanor (Rashleigh) Hochstein. He graduated from Berkley High School in Berkley, Michigan and then from Michigan Tech University with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering in 1966. His career began with Caterpillar Inc. which was followed by General Motors and Grede Foundries, Inc. When he moved to Gratoit Lake, he then worked for Ace Hardware in Calumet.
He was united in marriage to Carol Haanela on November 19, 1966 at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Hancock.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Mohawk, Rotary Club, American Foundry Society serving as President of the N.W. Chapter of Wisconsin, MTU Advisor of Operations Management Program, was the former Chairman of the Dickinson County United Way Chapter, and served on a church board of trustees. Allan also volunteered for Little Brothers~Friends of the Elderly, volunteered as a fireman, and also at summer camp for developmentally disabled children.
He enjoyed spending time at Gratiot Lake with his family and friends. He loved all types of fishing, enjoyed outdoor sports including snowmobiling, downhill skiing, and water skiing, and loved nature.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by many aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Hochstein; son Allan (Sally) Hochstein of Milwaukee; daughter, Heidi (Dave) and grandson Alex Bollinger of Harrison Township, MI; a sister Elaine Stuart and her partner and Al's friend Bill Green of Wixom, MI; nieces Jessica (Tom) Siewruk-Bass and Amy (Jeff) Siewruk-Carter of Smyrna GA; a special cousin, Ed (Nancy) Stoneman; and numerous additional beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at the Calumet United Methodist Church in Calumet with Rev. Robert White to officiate. The O'Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock is assisting with the arrangements.
