Carolyn Wescoat 87, of Copper Harbor left us on June 3, 2016
after a brief decline in health. She had been lovingly cared for at home
for the last few months by her daughters, Kathy and Mary, as well as an
outstanding community of extended family, neighbors and friends.
Carolyn was born in Vicksburg, MI on January 6, the third child of
Anne and Russell Coller. She did not have the opportunity to meet her
father, as Russell had passed a few months before her birth. Raised by
her fiercely independent mother, she acquired the life skills that would
shape her future.
Carolyn graduated from the University of Michigan with a
Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education. While student
teaching with his sister Kay, she met Antone Cybulski of Iron River, MI
and the two were married on May 30, 1952.
Their first child, Kathy, was born in Marquette, with Mary, Steve
and Pete to follow in Hancock, where the family lived for three decades.
She was predeceased by Tony on June 6 th , 1976.
Carolyn was a strong and loving mother, participating in her four
very active children’s sporting events and activities. As life went on,
she was involved in over a dozen area volunteer organizations. She went
back to the classroom in the late 70s, teaching kindergarten at the EL
Wright school in Hancock.
Along the way she met Jim Wescoat of Copper Harbor. Their
companionship complimented each other with magnificent style, and
they were married on April 3, 1982. Carolyn and Jim had a wonderful
life together in the Harbor, frequently entertaining an endless array of
family and friends. She was a master quilt maker, avid flower gardener,
sock knitter, jam, jelly and pickle maker. Above all throughout her life
she was was a loyal friend to many with an uncanny ability to relate to
and understand children. During visits you would often find Carolyn off
in a corner reading to a youngster. A Fourth of July visit was a tradition
for years. It still is a special time for family members from every branch
of the family tree to celebrate with her at her home.
Jim preceded her in death May 21, 2001.
Carolyn is survived by her sisters MaryAnne Witters of Milton, CT
and Nancy McClintock of Seaside, CA; daughters Kathy (Mike) Schiffer
and their children Carly and Pat of Ovid, MI; Mary Cybulski (John
Tintori) and their children Sophia and Ray Tintori of Brooklyn, NY;
sons Steven Cybulski (Jill Zaffers) of Contoocook, NH his children

Carolyn was an inspiration to those of us who knew and loved her.
Throughout her life, her immeasurable determination and courage was
only surpassed by her kindness and generosity. The dignity, strength and
monumental resolve Carolyn presented as her life drew to a close are a
true testimony of her beliefs.
Please join Carolyn’s family in a celebration of her life on Sunday,
September 4 from 13:

Harbor.
