Chassell: David M. Korhonen, 62, of the Tapiola Road in rural Chassell, passed away peacefully at the Omega House in Houghton on Monday evening, September 21, 2015 after a long battle with cancer.
He was born in Hancock on January 8, 1953, a son of the late William and Minnie (Manninen) Korhonen of Chassell. He graduated from Houghton High School in 1971 and then received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Michigan Tech in 1975.
On October 6, 1979 he married Christine Lahti.
He worked for the Ontonagon County Road Commission as an accountant from 1975 to 1979 and then worked as an accountant for the Copper Country Dairy from 1979 to 1984. Since 1984 he was employed at the Frank A. Douglass Agency in Houghton as an accountant and insurance agent.
He enjoyed skiing, snowshoeing, and golf.
He is survived by his wife Christine of Chassell; a sister Janet (Roy) Pikkarainen of Hancock; two brothers, Robert Korhonen of Sylmar, CA and Charles (Jane) Korhonen of Chassell; and by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his pet dog, Greta. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at the Tapiola Apostolic Lutheran Church at 11 A.M. on Friday with Pastor Kenneth Storm to officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton.
Friends may call at the church for an hour before the services on Friday. The O'Neill-Dennis Funeral Home of Hancock is assisting with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Copper Country Humane Society, P.O. Box 453, Houghton, MI 49931 or the Omega House, 2211 Maureen Lane, Houghton, MI 49931 in the name of David Korhonen.
