Douglas Johnson Obituary

Calumet: Douglas A. Johnson, 93, formerly of Calumet and Dodgeville, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at the Greentree of Hubbell.

     He was born on February 28, 1926 in Swedetown location near Calumet to the late Mae and Herman Johnson. Following graduation from Calumet High School, he went to work in the Detroit area for a short time. He then joined the U. S. Navy during World War II, later serving in the U. S. Army for 4 years in the Philippine Islands.

     After returning to the area, he worked at C & H Mining Company until he was injured at work. He then started his own business, Johnson Shoe Repair in Calumet, later moving to Houghton until his retirement.

     He was married to Patricia O’Connor of Hancock. She preceded him in death in 2013.

     He was an active in several civic activities, including Calumet Village Council and Little League. He was an avid bowler, golfer, and fisherman. He loved to watch his children compete in hockey.

     Besides his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by siblings Dorothy, Joyce and Gerald.

     He is survived by a daughter, Susan (Ken) DuLong of Dollar Bay; grandchildren Sean, Cameron, Erica, and Benjamin; step-daughter Julie Monette; and other relatives and friends.

     Graveside services and interment will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton in the spring.

     The O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements which are incomplete and will be announced later.
