Hancock: Gladys D. (Beiring) Olson, 92, of Hancock, passed away at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility's Woodland Haven on Wednesday afternoon, May 13, 2015.
She was born in Painesdale on July 28, 1922, a daughter of the late James and Albina (Gereau) Mitchell. After moving to Hancock, she later graduated from Hancock High School.
Gladys married Raymond Beiring on September 1, 1941. They were married until his death in 1993. They resided in the local area, having lived on Quincy Hill and then Hancock. Not being employed outside the home, she spent her time raising their 5 children and maintaining the home. In 1996 she married John Olson. They were married for about 9 years before he died, living part of that time at Lake View Manor in Hancock.
Gladys was a member of the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock and attended church regularly. She had enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, playing cards (pinochle), and watching television, especially Wheel of Fortune.
Besides her parents and husbands, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and James Mitchell, and two sisters: Marie Wiitanen and Claire Adams. She is survived by her five children: Edward (Darlene) and Richard (Debra) Beiring both of Lake Linden, Albert (Patricia) Beiring of Northville, Mary Anne (Phillip II) Verville of Hancock, and Jean (Thomas) Dutcher of Painesdale; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M. on Tuesday at the Church of the Resurrection with Rev. Fr. William Ssozi to officiate. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton. There will be no visitation.
