Helen J. Johnson

Loving Mother, Helen J. Johnson, 92 of Laurium, formerly of Baraga, entered into eternal life on June 12, 2021 at her home with her daughter by her side.  

Helen was born December 22, 1928 to Mitchell and Anna (Sikorsky) LaChapelle.  She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, sister LaVerne LaChapelle Kalliainen, first husband Ted Maki, second husband Arvid Johnson and son Gary Maki.

She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Curry of Laurium, Grandson Tim Maki of Baraga, Granddaughter Kim Tennyson of Manistique and Great Grandchildren Blake, Bryce, Carter, Cole, Connor, Hailee and Kenzi.

Helen had constant faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and had a strong will to recover from many illnesses.  Her reply to anything negative was always “Better days are coming.”  She always had a positive attitude and a wonderful sense of humor, even during painful times.

Helen enjoyed cooking and was an amazing cook.  Other hobbies included shopping and sewing.

Helen was a generous, kind, caring person who made her daughter’s life beautiful and blessed.  Helen was deeply loved and always will be.

Her daughter wishes to thank Dr. David Kass, Peggy and Gail of UPCAP, At-Home Companions and Portage Home Nursing for their care and support.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by O-Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock.
