Hancock: Hubert Allen Peltier, 65, of Ionia, formerly of Hancock, passed away on May 18, 2016 at his home in Ionia.
He was born at home in Hancock on October 31, 1950 to the late Lawrence and Elmira Peltier. After attending St. Joseph-St. Patrick Parochial School in Hancock, he then attended Hancock High School. Hubert served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War for three years from 1968 to 1971. He was employed in the Ionia area until ill health forced his retirement. He was a member of Shiloh Community Church.
Hubert was an avid rock hound, enjoyed woodworking and making jewelry. He also spent time on his pontoon boat and liked to play golf.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Peltier, and two sisters, Therese Mikkola and Leona Peltier.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Ritz-Martinine of Ionia; children Tanya (Doug) Woern, Kim (Dorral) Goforth, Tina (George) John, and Jody Peltier; step-son Jerald (Kim) Ritz; step-daughters Lori (Fred) Babcock and Susan (Steve) Ward; grandchildren Aubrey Woern, Paige Woern, and Jasmine John; brothers Francis of Hobart, IN, George of Houghton, and Robert (Marian) of Dollar Bay; sisters Irene Edgar of Hancock, Kathy Johnson of Hancock, Patty (Jim) Barroga of Hancock, and Doris Peltier of Ripon, WI; and by step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at the O'Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock from 11 AM. until noon. A committal service will be held at 1 P.M. at Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton with the Copper Country Veterans Association conducting military honors.
The O'Neill-Dennis Funeral Home of Hancock is assisting with local arrangements.
