Joseph Michael Bates

Chicago, IL: Joseph Michael Bates, 67, a former area resident, passed away on June 20, 2023 in his Chicago residence following a brief illness of natural causes.

He was born in Hancock to Marion “Nick” and Josephine (Brozovich) Bates and was employed locally until he became a long-time resident of Chicago.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Frank and James Bates; a niece Rebecca Bates; and a nephew, Edward Bates.

He is survived by two sisters: Mary Ann Cassady and JoAnn (Bob) Kezele; a sister-in-law, Barb Bates; and by nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, July 14, 2023 at Saint Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton with Rev. Father John Martignon to officiate. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.
