Kelly Jeanne Byar Hayes

Traverse City: Kelly Jeanne Byar Hayes passed away at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, Mi with her husband, Matt, holding her hand on Saturday, March 4, 2023.

Kelly was born in Alma, MI on April 21, 1975 to Gary and Margaret Byar. She graduated from Traverse City Central High School in 1993 and attended Eastern Michigan University.

Kelly had her own successful jewelry-making business but most importantly to her, she was a stay-at-home mom to their five children. Kelly loved spending time with her family and listening to live music. She was a quiet observer with a quick wit and a heart of gold. Kelly was honest and real ~ a true salt-of-the-earth human you could count on. She also loved to play poker and won many tournaments. From the age of 5, she excelled at cross country skiing. She won many medals and trophies and qualified for the Junior Olympics.

Kelly is survived by her parents, Gary & Margaret (Dyni) Byar; her husband, Matthew Hayes; their four daughters: Mackenzie, Kendall, Presley, & Harper; and one son, Branden. Also surviving are her sister, Amy (Jon) Majszak; two brothers, Christian and Jeremy; her in-laws, Bill and Verna Hayes; many aunts, uncles, & cousins; four nephews: Mika Byar, Dayne Byar, Julian Majszak, & Sawyer Majszak; and two nieces, Scarlett Byar & Elise Majszak.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Norman & Jeanne Dyni and Robert & Patricia Byar; and aunt, Mary Beth Fairman.
