Lucille (Lu) Armitage Obituary

Lucille (Lu) Patricia Armitage passed away in Roseville, CA. on April 5th, 2022, at the age of 101. Lu was born in Franklin Township, Houghton County MI. to Batista and Mary (Moglie) Vitton on December 12, 1920. She was the 9th child of ten and was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings.  She grew up on a dairy farm that her family owned and operated and had many cherished memories of her family life at that time..

After high school, Lucille attended St. Joseph Hospital Nursing School where she received her RN and began her long career in the nursing profession. She with a few classmates decided to “hit the road” and visit sunny California. She worked as a nursing supervisor in Pittsburg, CA then at the Palo Alto hospital (later to become the Stanford Medical Center).  California became her permanent home. She married Anthony Rovano and was later divorced.

While living in Palo Alto Lucille was hired to set up one of the country’s first corporate medical clinics.  She met the challenge and considered it the highlight of her career. It was there that she met and married James Armitage. For the next 45 years they lived throughout the state and retired in Red Bluff, CA. until his death in 1992.

Lucille was very active and had many interests and hobbies.  She was a beautiful knitter, played bridge , was an excellent cook, loved to entertain, and later in life took up golf. She grew to love playing and developed a beautiful swing that she was very proud of.

Later she met and married John Scott (Scotty). They enjoyed fishing and playing golf on a regular basis. As Scotty became ill, Lucille used her nursing skills and compassionate heart to care for him until his death in 2010.

Lu’s nephew, Paul, and his family encouraged her to move to Roseville where she resided in the Sierra Pointe Assisted Living Center. She spent her days with her good friend, Bo Iseaff playing Wii Bowling and Dominos almost every day.

In her later years she joined her friends, Dale and Cari Cannon sharing their home and family.  She loved to entertain friends, play games (always winning), and enjoyed telling stories of her life.

Lucille will be missed by her extensive family of nieces and nephews, stepfamilies, the Cannon family, and the many friends she made throughout the years.

Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Amethyst Grove Care Center, Snowline Hospice, Dr. Beverly Chang, and Dr. Bil Chima and staff for the amazing care provided to Lucille.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, July 8, 2022 at Lake View Cemetery (Section H) in Calumet with Rev. Father Gracious Pulimoottil to officiate.
