Houghton: Marie C. K. Anderson, 91, most recently of the Bluffs, passed away peacefully at the Omega House in Houghton surrounded by her family on April 23, 2015.
Born in Hancock on January 19, 1924, a daughter of the late John F. and Elizabeth Clara (Richter) Karry, she was raised on Holland Street. She later graduated from Hancock High School.
Marie was married to Walter T. Anderson on December 31, 1945 in Iron River. She made her home with her family in Hancock, Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and for most of her married life at the home that she and Walter had built on Woodland Road in Houghton in 1954. She had also been a winter seasonal resident of Sarasota, Florida. The family also enjoyed their camp at East Grosse Point Shores near Dollar Bay. In her later years she resided at the Bluffs in Houghton.
Marie was employed in her early years at the Rexall Drug Store in Hancock. Later she worked for GEM Survey, the D & N Savings Bank, and the Twin City Style Shop.
Marie was a dedicated member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton where she sang in the church choir. Organizations that she belonged to include Houghton County Family & Community Education (FCE), MARPS, the Copper Country Chorale, and Little Brothers~Friends of the Elderly at Thanksgiving and Christmas meals. She also volunteered at the St. Vincent DePaul Store in Houghton and the Van Wezel Performing Arts Center in Sarasota, Florida. Being a keen musician, she enjoyed playing the accordion, guitar, piano, and harmonica. She also enjoyed basket weaving, painting, and various other crafts.
Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter; brothers Irving, Joseph, and Lawrence Karry; and sister, Marguerite Browning.
She is survived by her children: Richard T. (Lois) of Calumet, Dale W. (Phyllis) of Dollar Bay, Ronald J. (Barb) of Tapiola, Karen M. (Ken) Fraser of Milford, MA, Bob L. of Chassell, Thomas M. (Terry) of Portage Twp., Keith J. (Karen) of Houghton, and Marilyn E. (Michael) Glover of Ickford, England; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Houghton with Rev. Fr. John Martignon to officiate. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock.
