Coburntown: Michael William Stoel, 55, of Coburntown, passed away at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock on Saturday morning, August 15, 2015 following a long battle with cancer.
He was born on August 25, 1959 in Detroit, a son of William and Jean (Holappa) Stoel. He was a 1977 graduate of Athens High School in Detroit. During most of his lifetime, he was a flooring and carpet installer in the Ann Arbor area. He moved to the area in May of 2010. While here, he enjoyed remodeling and working on his house. He especially liked to work in his lawn and gardens, and was proud of his large sunflowers.
Michael belonged to the Salvation Army throughout his life. He enjoyed fishing at Porvoo Park at the Hancock waterfront. He was a very friendly person who got along well with his neighbors, adults and children alike.
He is survived by his mother, Jean (Omar “Mo”) Brooks of Lake Linden, his father, William (Ruth) Stoel of Madison Heights, a brother, Steven (Grace Atkinson) Stoel of Lake Linden, a step-sister, Diane, his pet dog, Jasmine, and by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday at the O'Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock with Rev. Robert White to officiate.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10 A.M. until the 11 A.M. time of services.
