Milton Niemi Obituary

Hancock: Milton Gordon Niemi, 90, passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Canal View – Houghton County in Hancock where he had been a resident for the past 18 months.

Milton was drafted into the U.S. Army as a Corporal in the Medical Corps during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge from the service he came home to buy the family farm. For a short time he drove a fish delivery truck to Chicago and also worked for the Copper Country Dairy. Milt was a farmer all his life with beef cattle, milk cows, and horsemanship being very important to him.

In 1975 he married the the love of his life, Catherine “Tinka” Kangas. They made their life on the farm on the Dover Road. He will be fondly remembered as a man who could tell a story that usually had a lesson to be learned. He loved to help or teach anyone who asked.

Milton is survived by his wife Tinka at Canal View-Houghton County; a brother, Doug of Oneco Road, and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Interment will be in his family lot at Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock, section 4, at noon, on Saturday, October 9, 2021 with the Copper Country Veterans Association conducting full military honors.

The O'Neill-Dennis Funeral Home of Hancock is assisting with the arrangements.
