Houghton: Patricia Cavosie Fisher of Houghton, Michigan died July 8, 2021 in her home.
Pat was born July 18th, 1940 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Virginia (Hill) Cavosie and John Clement Cavosie. She attended Butler University and earned a teaching degree in 1962. During her student teaching experience, Pat’s innate desire to teach became evident and she excelled. While at Butler, she met Charles Jeffrey Fisher of Bremen, Indiana who she married in April of 1963.
Pat continued to teach until she became pregnant with their first child, Fredrick Charles born in April 1964. She chose to stay home to mother full time. Two years later, their daughter, Jill was born.
In 1968, the family moved to Portage, Michigan and Jeff opened Fisher Pharmacy in downtown Kalamazoo while Pat managed the kids and house in Portage. For the next 15 years, Pat dedicated her life and applied her teaching skills to supporting her children’s interests, escalating her volunteerism to an admirably professional level. Whether acting as den mother, Girl Scout leader, baseball and softball scorekeeper, PTO President, or Reading Aid she made a significant impact in her kids’ lives and to those organizations where she gave her time. The impact she valued most was to instill a love of reading and learning. She went on to teach special education at Croyden Avenue School for several years.
After divorce in 1984, Pat returned to school to become a massage therapist. She earned her license in therapeutic massage from the Kalamazoo Center for the Healing Arts in the early 90’s. And not only practiced there but also taught classes. Her hands were magic and she had the healing gift, continuing to use her talents to help others well into her later years. Pat returned to Indianapolis to care for her aging mother until her death. In 2005, she made her final move to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to be near her daughter Jill’s family.
Pat was a giver, she always kept her bird feeders full and made sure she had dog treats in her purse. She was full of love for the wonders and magic of the natural world. She was always one to make sure that those who were often overlooked would not be overlooked by her. She was creative, caring, generous, fiery, and often feisty.
Pat is survived by her son Frederick Charles Fisher, M.D. of Dakota Dunes, SD and his children Gwyneth, Cameron, Penelope and Naomie Fisher; her daughter Jill Huckins Fisher (Casey Huckins), their children, Adaline and Hayden Huckins, and her former spouse Jeff Fisher (Sarah). Her older brother, John L. Cavosie (Pamm) lives in Nashville, IN and his sons Mike and Mark Cavosie also of Indiana.
Cremation has occurred and an informal gathering to celebrate Pat’s memory is being planned for September 12th, 1pm at the pavilion at the Keweenaw Land Trust’s Boston Pond Nature Area, Hancock, MI on the west side of US 41 just before the turn off to Houghton Co. Airport.
