Philip James “Jim” O'Brien Obituary

Hancock: Philip James “Jim” O'Brien, 88, of Hancock, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at U.P. Health System – Marquette.

He was born in Hancock on October 24, 1933 to the late Philip Thomas and Louise Elizabeth (Trudgeon) O'Brien. He was raised as an army brat and returned to Hancock in 1950, graduated from Hancock High School in 1951, and then served in the United States Navy for 2 years. Following his discharge from the Navy, Jim worked in Detroit for a short time. He returned to Hancock and went to work for Herman Gundlach Construction as a heavy duty truck driver, retiring in 1994.

He is survived by two daughters, Mary (Glen) Button and Debbie (Andy) McPherson both of California; three sisters Patti Seline (Walter Aros), twin sister Jeanne Eilola, and Helen (Norbert) Verville; he was a favorite uncle to his numerous nieces and nephews; and by many friends, especially Phil (Judy) Monticello.

A graveside service will be held at a date in the near future at Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock and will be announced from the O'Neill-Dennis Funeral Home.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to the Hancock Public Schools Foundation, 501 Campus Drive, Hancock, MI 49930 in the name of Philip James O'Brien.
