Lower Pewabic: Shirley A. Stocker, 82, formerly of Lower Pewabic Location, passed away on Monday, May 14, 2018 at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock.
She was born on July 31, 1935 in Flint, Michigan, a daughter of the late Leo “Curley” and Thelma (Kamp) Blanchard. After attending the Flint area schools, she worked at a local Flint Laundry, and then at a home for the mentally disabled. Locally, she worked in the home health care industry and volunteered at the St. Vincent DePaul store in Houghton.
Shirley was united in marriage to Howard Stocker in 1981 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church on Quincy Hill. Howard died in 1996.
She was a member of the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock. She enjoyed playing bingo and reading books.
Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles, and sons-in-law Philip Morin, Ronald Nuttal, Albert Pintar, and Doug Sydor.
She is survived by children Darlene Nuttall, Bonnie Morin, Carol Pintar, and Alice Sydor; 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; a brother,John (Loretta) Blanchard; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M. on Friday at the Church of the Resurrection with Rev. Fr. William Ssozi to officiate. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.
Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. before the mass on Friday.
