Uno W. Keranen

Hancock: Uno W. Keranen, 94, of Hancock, passed away peacefully at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility on Wednesday morning, March 8, 2017.

     Born on January 10, 1923 in Painesdale, he was the son of the late Eli and Hilma (Heikkinen) Keranen. Uno attended Hancock High School, and later served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

     He worked for the Hancock Public Schools for 33 years as a bus driver and custodian. He enjoyed bowling in his retirement years and loved watching sports, especially football.

     Uno married Eleanore Johns on August 16, 1947, celebrating 69 years of marriage.

     He was preceded in death by his sisters Elma Koski, Sylvia Kangas, Ellen Kangas, and Verna Maki, and brothers Reino and Carl Keranen.

     He is survived by his wife, Eleanore; daughters Sandy (Gordy) Grindey of Naples, FL, Patti (Vern) Perfetti of Chassell, and son, Scott Keranen of Chester, WV; grandchildren Sara Perfetti of Negaunee, Jodi (Randy) Beauchamp of New Jersey, Justin (Jenna) Perfetti of Maryland, and Emily Perfetti of Hancock; great-grandchildren Christina and Hallie Beauchamp and Benjamin Perfetti; and by nieces and nephews.

     At Uno's request, there will be no public visitation. A family memorial gathering will be held at the O'Neill-Dennis Funeral Home of Hancock. Spring interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.

     In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Little Brothers~Friends of the Elderly, 527 Hancock St., Hancock, MI 49930 in the name of Uno Keranen.

     The O'Neill-Dennis Funeral Home of Hancock is assisting the family with the arrangements.
