Vera Mary Armstrong Gerhardt

ANN ARBOR — Vera Mary Armstrong Gerhardt passed away peacefully on Aug. 1, 2024 surrounded by her children. She was born in Hancock, Michigan on September 24, 1922 to Ray W. Armstrong and Mary Schenk Armstrong.

She graduated from University of Wisconsin Madison in 1944 with a B.S. in home economics and was a Chi Omega. She met her future husband Philipp in 1942 at the university. They were married 2/24/1945.

In 1965 they relocated to East Lansing, Michigan and remained there for 55 years. They traveled to many countries all over the world. She was an avid reader, vintage movie watcher, genealogist and collector of recipes. Cooking was her life-long passion. She especially enjoyed her summers at her cottage in Eagle Harbor Michigan

She was preceded in death by her husband Philipp in 2008.

Vera raised three children, Ellen Daigh Gerhardt Brown (Charles), Columbia MD, Stephen Philipp Gerhardt (Suzanne), Ann Arbor MI, and Doris Mary Gerhardt Hollandsworth, San Diego CA. She had 4 granddaughters and 8 great grandchildren who called her Super Grandma.
