Houghton:  David H. Reynolds, 82, of Houghton, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 27, 2017 at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility (HCMCF). Born in the living room of the family home on Calverley Street to John and Pearl Reynolds, he resided there for 79 years until transitioning to the HCMCF.

David was the “late in life baby”, as he was told it. Born on the 4th of July 1934, the little firecracker was the youngest of eight children. His siblings-Ray (Mary), Lloyd (Sylvia), George (Marylou), Ivadell (Doug), Grace (Paul), Bette (Everett), and Ruth (Bonnie Burford)-preceded him in death. He is survived by Suellen, his loving wife of 51 years; children, Shannon (Scott) Harrington of Marquette, Carole (Chris) Reynolds of Hancock, and John (Cheryl) Reynolds of Twin Lakes; grandchildren, Emily, Katy, Gracie, Vanessa, and Bob; great-granddaughter, Stella; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear family friends, Dominic and Sue Feira of South Range.

He often referred to himself as being “a pick and shovel man”: he lived simply, loved unconditionally, and was the hardest worker one could ever meet. He was never afraid to get his hands dirty- he worked at the Freda Mill prior to its closure and the Superior Block Plant. He retired from Michigan Technological University where he served as a custodian in Wadsworth Hall. He was adored by the students and developed lasting friendships with co-workers.

David was one of the most genuine and giving people-”salt of the earth” many have said. His selflessness was evident in all areas of his life; he was the family care-giver. Family and friends were essential to him. Form caring for his children to bowling leagues, hunting trips, and countless hours talking about Detroit Tigers baseball with Ruth, Bonnie, and Everett, he always made people smile with his teasing and giddy child-like laughter.

A special thank you to the HCMCF nurses and staff for their loving care and support. Also, thank you to O'Neill-Dennis Funeral Home for the arrangements.

A memorial gathering will be held from 10:00 am and the service at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 11th with Pastor Chuck Williams to officiate at the O'Neill-Dennis Funeral Home of Hancock.  Online condolences can be left at www.oneilldennisfh.com.
