Houghton: Ernestine Margaret (Spear) Hruska, 101, of the Bluffs in Houghton, passed away at her home on Sunday morning, September 6, 2015.
She was born in Quincy Township on November 20, 1913 to the late Ernest and Margaret (Polglase) Spear. She attended the Quincy School, later graduating from Hancock High School in 1930. From 1945 to 1975 she worked at the New York Central Railroad and Penn Central Railroad for 30 years. She retired as auditor in the expenditures department. She returned to live in Portage Township following her retirement.
On December 8, 1951 she was married to Earl Hruska. He preceded her in death in 1978.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hancock where she belonged to the United Methodist Women. She was also a life member of the Trillium Chapter Order of Eastern Star, and former member of the Railroad Business Women in Detroit.
Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Miriam Pruner, and a special cousin, Donald Spear.
She is survived by relatives Ken (Barbara) Menear, Barbara (John) Menear Nickola, Patricia (Norman) Church, Nancy (Paul) Durant, and Eleanor July all of Flint; Craig (Dawne) Menear of Marietta, GA; David Spear of Bay City; Helen Spear of Houghton and her children Shawn Spear and Jessica (Sean) Gohman; special friends Mary Nominelli of Hancock, Sue and Jim Vollmar of Keweenaw Bay, Gerald and Jean Parker of Chassell, and Marilyn Flanigann of Chassell; neighbors Jim and Laurel Yankovich of Chassell; and by other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday at the O'Neill-Dennis Funeral Home of Hancock with Rev. Amy Terhune to officiate. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery near Manistique.
