Hancock: Frances R. McCarthy, 64, of Hancock, passed away early on Thursday morning, December 17, 2015 at U.P. Health System-Portage Hospital in Hancock.
She was born on March 3, 1951 in Ironwood, Michigan to the late Douglas and Eunice (Rose) Hall. She was a High School Graduate from the American School in Chicago, Illinois. She later attended Michigan Tech for over three years in their accounting program. She was employed for 40 years as an accountant at the Community Action Agency of the Copper Country, retiring in 2008.
Frances enjoyed bowling and each year she was involved with many local and regional leagues where she held many organizational offices. She also belonged to the local, regional, and national Women's United States Bowling Congress associations.
She is survived by her husband, John M. “Mike” McCarthy of Hancock, her son, Christopher R. McCarthy of Laurium, and aunt, Coletta Rose of Houghton, an uncle, Thomas Rose of Houghton, 2 nieces, Tammy Ginnow Northway of Houghton and Tara Ginnow Agama of Peoria, Illinois, a nephew, Michael Bond of Denver, CO, a grand-nephew, Tony “T.J.” Vencato, 2 grand-nieces, Tristi Ann Vencato and Torri Pringle, and numerous cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by a half-sister, Noni Ginnow and a niece, Tanya Ginnow.
Graveside memorial services will be held in the spring at the McCarthy family lot in Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to the Hancock Public Schools Foundation, 501 Campus Drive, Hancock, MI 49930 in the name of Frances McCarthy.
