Dollar Bay: Joan C. Zanardi, 85, of Dollar Bay, passed away at U.P. Health System- Portage on Monday evening, October 12, 2015.
She was born in Calumet on March 8, 1930 to the late Edward and Claudia (McKinstry) Wilkowski and later graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Calumet. She was employed at Michigan Bell Telephone Company for many years in their Calumet and Houghton offices, retiring in 1980.
In 1954 she was married to Charles Zanardi at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Calumet. As a couple, they enjoyed traveling and bicycling. He preceded her in death on September 30, 2009.
Joan was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church of Dollar Bay and it's Altar Society. She also belonged to the Telephone Company Pioneers of America.
Besides her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a niece, Amy Wilkowski.
She is survived by her brother, Gerald (Janet) Wilkowski of Chassell; nephews Stephen (Laura) Wilkowski and Kyle Wilkowski; a niece, Colette (Steve) Patchin; grandnephews Jordan Chambers, Sean and Jake Patchin, and Michael and Samuel Wilkowski; and grandnieces Taylor Patchin and Margaret Wilkowski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Dollar Bay with Rev. Fr. William Ssozi to officiate. Burial will be at Lake View Cemetery in Calumet. Friends may call from 9:00 A.M. until 9:45 at the church before the mass.
