Louisa “Rusty” Sustarich

Louisa “Rusty” Sustarich (Russell), 84, a former resident of Chassell passed away November 19, 2016 in Macomb. She was born October 11, 1932, the daughter of the late Daniel and Katherine Russell of Lower Pewabic. She attended the Pewabic School for 10 years and graduated from Hancock High School in 1950. She bowled in a league and played 3rd base for the Quincy Hill Toppers in the later 40s – early 50s. She was known to her teammates and friends as “Rusty”. She worked at the F. W. Woolworth for 6 years. On Sept. 2, 1961, she married John Sustarich at Mt. Carmel Church of Franklin Mine. They lived in Calumet for 5 years, then moved to Chassell in 1966 where they resided until they moved to Macomb in July 2014 to live with their daughter. She was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church. In her later years, her favorite pastime was playing the slots at the casino.
She is survived by a son, Michael (Ann) Sustarich of Midland; two daughters: Lori (Kevin) Curie of Appleton, Wisconsin; and Mary (John) McHale of Macomb; Grandchildren Nicole (Kevin) Kauth, Bailey Curie, Catherine McHale, and Emily Sustarich; great-grandchild Kyla Kauth, niece Colleen (Tim) Quinn, nephew Steve Cencich, her dearest friend of 70+ years Rosemary Schwenk and her cherished neighbors Joan and Jim Lang. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband John who passed away on April 10 and nine siblings.
In keeping with her wishes no funeral services will held at this time. Both Louisa and John will be taken back home and buried at Forest Hill Cemetery with a Memorial Service planned for spring 2017.
