Laurium: Marvin R. Waisanen, 78, of Laurium, passed away at U.P. Health System-Marquette on Saturday morning, May 13, 2017.
He was born on February 3, 1939 in Mesnard Location, a son of the late Alexander and Irma (Halvari) Waisanen. He attended the Mesnard School and later joined the Merchant Marine. He sailed on the great lakes and worked in the construction industry in his younger years. In later years he was self employed as a local handyman.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Kenneth and Matt Waisanen; sisters Sandra Kotajarvi and Ruth Waisanen; a brother-in-law, Thomas Kaipio; and a sister-in-law, Rebecca Waisanen.
He is survived by his special friend of 50 years, Audrey Haataja of Laurium; daughter Kim Wilkins of Gaylord; sisters Marion Kaipio of Calumet and Helen (Donald) Waarala of Niagra, WI: brother, John Waisanen of Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Margaret Waisanen of Calumet; and by many nieces and nephews.
The wishes of the deceased were to be cremated. There will be no visitation or funeral services.
