I was in a tough situation during high school. I had a chance to think back, and Mr. Rousseau had an impact on my life. It was very subtle, but it contributed. In a larger school, maybe I wouldn’t have made it. In a smaller school I was known and could receive subtle nudges in the correct direction. Oliver Rousseau provided two of these subtle nudges. At one time, I had missed four consecutive days of school. Mr. Rousseau called my home and said he was concerned about me. I wasn’t going to drop out, but I was losing my compass reading at the time. After that, it was in the back of my mind that I was worthwhile to care about. A second time, I was scoring a junior high basketball game and was taking some shots at halftime. Mr. Rousseau noticed that I had an interest in basketball, and convinced coach Heinonen to put me on the long end of the bench to keep me engaged during my senior year of high school. These events turned out to be contributing factors in my life to enable me to overcome early life difficulties and, ultimately, succeed. The team of Barkell and Rousseau provided me with a strong education in high school, that then extended to Michigan Tech, and then an I.T. career, and then commodities trading, and then continuing rewarding personal relationships.

Dear Rosseau family. . . . I am a childhood neighbor and a member of "that other Rousseau family " which was frequently confused with yours. We have had more than a few discussions over who spelled the name correctly. (We did !) Your family is part of my childhood memories. Please accept my condolences on the loss of your parents.

Dear Rosseau Family
Our earthy world is a bit dimmer, our hearts a bit sadder with your dad's passing. He touched many lives and steered many from a wrong choice in life to one of good.
He was a great man and held the true respect of many.
He will be sadly missed but he serves as an inspiration of a life well lived, he truly left the world a better place.
Peace and blessings

I express my heartfelt sympathy to the family of Mr. Rosseau. He was truly an amazing gentleman, both in school and as a member of the Hancock American Legion. As a Past Commander as well, and because of his expertise he advised my on many matters with regard to the Post. While back home last summer I went to visit him and his wife, Virginia and we had a nice talk. I am certainly happy that I had this one last chance to talk with him - I know he will be truly missed - R.I.P. Mr. Oliver J. Rouseau.

Mr. Rosseau's family my thoughts and prayers to a legend in the community and in the school system. He helped my Class of 64 escape gracefully from HCH, at least most of us. With deepest sympathy. Paul

Dear Linda,
My sympathy and prayers go out to you and your family. I always loved your Dad when he was at the High School. He was always so kind to the students and as a Principal, I think the kids had so much respect for him. He will be missed by a lot of people.

Oliver Rousseau was part of the 'village' that made my childhood safe and happy--both at school and in the neighborhood. Decades later, I recall encountering him at coffee with cronies at a downtown cafe. He remarked that to qualify to sit at their table you needed to have a pacemaker, use a walker, or carry an oxygen tank....Ever the roll model, he was aging with humor. Happy memories--the best legacy of a well-lived life.
