Brownstown, MI:  Rose D. Hesse Phelan, 77, a former area resident passed away on February 15, 2017 in Brownstown, Michigan.

     She was born on October 11, 1939 in Hubbell to the late Evelyn (Schaaf) and Martin John Hesse Phelan. Rose attended Lake Linden-Hubbell Schools, graduating from Ontonagon High School. She then graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing and moved to Detroit. She was employed at Children's Hospital for over 40 years starting as an RN and then an Administrative Manager until her retirement. With a strong family connection to the area, she was a frequent visitor to the Copper Country.

     Rose was involved with the animal rescue programs in Lower Michigan for many years. She liked exercising, walking, and socializing with her many friends. She also enjoyed boating and camping.  Rose’s friends saw her as a very kind, compassionate, and witty woman.

     Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sisters Kathleen and Carol (Hesse) Varano and step-father, Delbert Hixson.

     She is survived by sisters Gloria (Hesse) Flecker of Boise, Idaho and Margie (Jerry) Hesse LaChapelle of Caldwell, Idaho; a brother, Bill Hixson of Huntsville, Texas, two uncles, many nieces and nephews  including her special nephew, Clay Hixson and lots of cousins.

     Graveside services are tentatively planned for 1:30 P.M. Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Maple Hill Cemetery in Lake Linden.
