Hancock: Ruth L. Verville, 91, of Hancock, passed away on Sunday morning, June 11, 2017 at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock.
Ruth was born on December 24, 1925 in Painesdale to the late Matti and Hilma Matero, and she attended local schools. On August 2, 1947 she was united in marriage to Douglas J. Verville. He preceded her in death on May 28, 2007.
Ruth grew up in the local South Range and Atlantic Mine areas. In her younger adult life she moved to the Detroit and Garden City areas where she was employed for a time at a nursing home in Westland, Michigan. While living in that area, she and her husband raised their family before moving to live in Hancock in 1979. She then worked at Portage View Hospital in Hancock for several years until her retirement.
Ruth enjoyed gardening and many other homemaking activities around her home. She also enjoyed taking trips with her husband and being with her family, and was especially loved by her children and grandchildren. She would often put the needs of others before her own.
Besides her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by 2 sons, Brian and Greg, and by eight sisters.
She is survived by her children: Dennis (Cheryl Carlson) Verville of River Forest, IL, Susan Verville of Laurium, and Steve (Tammy) Verville of Chassell; 7 grandchildren: Chelsea, Tanya, Michelle, Katie, Ry, Sarah, and Stephanie; 10 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and by nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at the O'Neill-Dennis Funeral Home of Hancock with Rev. David Taivalkoski to officiate.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home for an hour before the services. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.
