Suellen (Sue) M. Reynolds, 77, of Houghton, Michigan, died from a broken heart and natural causes on Monday, May 29, 2017, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility (HCMCF), rejoining her beloved husband David who passed away three months prior.

She is also preceded in death by her parents, Royalle and Crescentia Johnson as well as her brother Royalle Johnson Jr. She is survived by children, Shannon (Scott) Harrington of Marquette, Carole (Chris) Reynolds of Hancock, John (Cheryl) Reynolds of Twin Lakes; grandchildren, Emily, Kaity, Gracie, Vanessa, and Bob; great-granddaughter, Stella, great-grandson, Rowan; in addition to nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear family friends Dominic (Sue) Feira of South Range.

A lifelong resident of Hancock/Houghton, Sue attended Hancock schools prior to pursuing a career in nursing. She left nursing after adopting her first of three children, becoming the ultimate family matriarch. Between running the household and keeping David and the kids in line, she made sure no one went without, even when there was very little to give. She was also the protector, keeping the kids’ nightmares at bay, and saving her youngest from his fear of water and the dreaded bathtub drain by getting in the tub with him.

Sue’s reserved personality lent itself to solitary past-times. She was an avid reader, consuming more books than most. The attic of the family home is filled with hundreds upon hundreds of mysteries, romance, and crime dramas. She also had an impressive green thumb. She covered every inch of windowsill with the most stunning African Violets.

Every summer Sue packed up the family for memorable adventures at the mustard yellow camp in Twin Lakes. There wasn’t a kid back on Calverley Street who didn’t know about her unrivaled turtle catching skills. She was the most at home quietly rowing her boat across Little Lake Gerald.  She spent countless relaxed hours fishing, turtle catching, and simply soaking up the serenity of the lake.

A special thank you to the HCMCF nurses and staff for their loving care and support. Also, thank you to O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home for the arrangements.

After 51 years together in life, Sue and Dave will be laid to rest together at Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton. A graveside service will take place on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 10 A.M. in Section 8 of the cemetery, family and friends are welcome to attend. The Reverend Father John Martignon will officiate.
